    Im realizing the biggest thing stifling me now is just the fear i have for the content i produce online to be connected to my personal life. My products aren't anything obscene but they are often queer, and living in a very conservative area and having what I sell directly connected to my name could have major negative impacts on my life (especially my family life). Things like local searching, local markets, local stores, anything where I'd have to show my face, etc, are off limits unfortunately. Personal websites and search terms + youtube content are all very doable though so ill probably focus on that

    Charcoal is very subtle, unlike acrylic and oils. Shadow- essence and the colourful manifestation- unfolding. Both complement each other. The raw, tactile charcoal complementing the other mediums applied with instruments. A red phoenix rising from charred coal. Time to have some fun 😄

    This was just what I needed to hear. I have just invested in a printer to begin my own small business printing my art and have been trying to research how to go about everything. The thought of chasing sales via social media and trying to get all the likes was overwhelming and scary. I don't want my worth to be defined by likes. So I have purchased your workbook and hoping it will take me on a more calm, sustainable and organic journey with my vision of what I want to be doing as an artist. Thanks x

    Tbh I find this a little strange- it sounds like you just hate social media and didn’t have success there. I have a calm long term social media following. I’m authentic and my following appreciates that. I agree it’s good to have other avenues for business also. But social media doesn’t automatically mean hustle culture and chaos. It just means you need a good social media strategy. It’s especially good for people just starting out. A website is a big commitment, can be expensive… and if you think a business can lose a lot by being hacked on social media, then you can lose just as much by having a website hacked hey!!

    I’ve never liked the whole “you ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE a target audience” mindset. I don’t agree with discriminating against people. I don’t care how old you are, what race you are, what religion you practice, what political views you have, what gender you are or what sexual orientation you have. There’s only ONE thing that me and my clients need to share, and that’s an appreciation for the things I’ve created in general or specifically for them. Everyone’s money is green to me so I don’t want to put a target on anyone’s back. Maybe that’s why I’m not successful, I don’t know, but that’s just how I am and I don’t fancy needing to change that 😂

  • @OzyIllustrates
    @OzyIllustrates 2 дні тому

    Sadly it’s not even easier being a “people person.” Really, I’ve met more introverts that succeed way easier and faster than any of the outgoing types. There’s definitely some sort of psychology behind that for sure 😂 But for the shy types and the outgoing types, what’s a killer is the locations of where to meet people. Where I am there’s only one event -ish I can go to but they hold it only twice a month, it’s in a very bad part of the city and they hold it at night or very early on a Sunday. That may not sound like a big deal, but imagine being in a major downtown city that has at least two churches on every street (not kidding 😂). Early morning + Sunday + the birthplace of every religious house in the world = traffic that has claimed lives 😂 The only other events in my state are several hours away one way and still in bad areas. So, even though I’m a people person (when they’re not stupid 😂) getting out there is pretty impossible. Not to mention that so many art related places or events are charging money nowadays, which is just the final nail in the coffin. That’s why social media SOUNDS appealing because you can interact with people without having to worry about locations or money. But nope. Social media is anything BUT! 😑 😂

    There has been an anti human and anti art agenda from the big companies/gov for many years. Insta is not crowded, they make you think it is. What Instagram chooses to promote is OFF models. OFFF models get shown much more than normal photographers and creatives who put so much effort for each post. They want to fill peoples heads with junk. If you don’t make money on Insta, it’s easy for you to leave it. They just promote immorality.

    00:00 📈 Introduction to calm marketing for creative businesses. 00:06 🎨 Emphasis on authenticity and stress-free marketing without social media. 00:13 🌍 Creatives typically pursue their passions to contribute to the world, not for fame or wealth. 00:27 🕒 Balance is key, ensuring time for life, family, and other creative projects. 00:38 😤 Frustration with the hustle culture imposed on creative businesses. 00:52 🚫 You don’t have to follow the hustle culture to succeed. 01:01 🔟 Decade-long experience as a creative solopreneur in various roles. 01:19 🧠 Proof that you can maintain personality and integrity while running a successful business. 01:24 🌟 Emphasis on individuality in business building; no one-size-fits-all formula. 01:41 🕰 Genuine growth requires time and effort, not quick fixes. 02:00 ❤ Importance of enjoying the journey while building a sustainable business. 02:19 🚢 Discussion on the declining value of social media for business marketing. 02:30 📉 Social media platforms are overcrowded, reducing visibility. 02:45 🤖 Algorithm dominance, ads, and superficial content plague social media. 03:11 👫 Lack of real social interaction on social media. 03:22 🎲 Business reliance on social media is precarious and stressful. 03:37 📉 Decreased effectiveness of social media for organic business reach. 04:18 👀 Professional creatives see minimal traffic and sales from social media. 04:23 📊 Personal downsides of social media include comparison, invisibility, and exposure to scams. 04:48 🏃 Fear of missing out (FOMO) on social media is largely unfounded. 05:05 📈 Businesses can still thrive without social media, often with less stress. 05:38 🌿 Introduction to the concept of calm marketing for creative businesses. 06:08 ✨ Calm marketing involves sharing personality and providing value authentically. 06:24 🧘 Shift from hustle culture to calm marketing: quality over quantity. 06:43 📧 A small, engaged audience can be more valuable than a large, unengaged one. 07:27 💼 Importance of focusing on the right audience for business sustainability. 07:40 📉 Avoiding vanity metrics like likes and followers that don't translate to business success. 07:58 🤝 Today's business environment craves substance and real connection. 08:24 🔄 Stand out by offering substance and real personal connections. 08:37 🧲 Draw in a small, deeply aligned audience. 08:50 👥 Successful businesses understand and focus on their ideal clients. 09:21 🎯 Identify and brainstorm strategies to reach and serve the ideal client. 10:01 🎨 Not all creative hobbies need to be turned into businesses. 10:21 📣 Marketing should focus on the audience for business stability. 10:40 📝 Visualize and detail characteristics of your ideal client for effective marketing. 11:23 🌟 Being authentic in marketing helps attract and connect with your ideal clients. 11:52 📡 Reach your ideal clients by reverse engineering their discovery process. 13:03 🌐 Example: A brand photographer's discovery process by potential clients. 14:20 🏆 Clients choose businesses that offer substance and personal connection. 15:36 🌿 Provide substance and personal connection to stand out. 17:16 🎯 Social media is ineffective for stable, long-term business marketing. 17:46 🏞 Calm creative businesses need a calm marketing style. 18:32 🛠 Build business infrastructure to support calm marketing. 19:28 📊 A good business infrastructure includes a discoverable website and an email list. 19:53 🏡 Your business needs a stable, controllable home-preferably a website. 20:19 📦 Having all your information in one place (bio, portfolio, products) enhances discoverability and user experience. 20:34 📧 Email is the most reliable form of online communication, not filtered by algorithms like social media. 20:51 👥 Email communication feels more personal and intimate than social media posts. 21:17 🔒 You own your email list, not subject to social media companies, allowing for segmentation and portability. 21:40 💰 Email marketing is the most effective and profitable communication medium for most businesses. 22:04 🏆 For many businesses, the email list is the most valuable asset, leading to consistent sales. 22:36 🎁 Offering a freebie can boost email list growth by providing value and building trust with new subscribers. 24:06 🚀 Growing an email list without social media involves creating searchable content and leveraging other audiences. 25:05 📈 Regular content creation and PR activities (like interviews and collaborations) are effective ways to grow your email list. 26:13 🎨 Effective content is helpful, original, and has a personal touch, focusing on quality over quantity. 28:00 🌟 Provide substance by creating content that answers common questions or solves problems for your audience. 29:01 🗺 Use PR to leverage other audiences, such as guest posts, podcasts, and collaborations, to grow your email list. 30:34 📅 A calm marketing strategy involves fewer but more effective activities, focusing on long-term goals. 31:09 🛠 Your primary focus should be your work and craft, as being good at what you do is a form of marketing. 32:26 🧪 Experiment to find what marketing channels work best for you, and don't be afraid to pivot if needed. 33:29 🚶‍♀ Effective marketing should feel like steadily building a body of work, not like running on a hamster wheel. 34:08 📚 Creating a calm marketing plan can help you build a successful business without relying on social media.

    I agree with everything you say in this video. As an artist myself, I will continue to hone my craft, learn new skillls, and keep creating in joy, in service to a more beautiful world, and in defiance of life-denying and soul-less AI generated content. It is not even art. There is a BIG difference between ART and content.

  • @wonderingabouttheworld

    Way too many people calling themselves artists, and are really hobbyists. The idea of what art actually is has had its definitions change enabling hobbyists to call themselves and their so called 'art', art and artist. These types of artists i fondly refer to as coloring book artists. They have no clue what real artists go thru to achieve a successful piece of art. Most artists are imposters and not artists at all and AI is also an imposter.

    I agree as long as there are human beings there will always be a need for human made art. From talking to people at markets and craft fairs, a lot of people don't really want AI art at least not as much as human made art for now. I could be wrong, but I suspect that AI art's value will be limited in some sectors and I think that it could even cause human made art to rise in value and be viewed as the gourmet burger to the cheap fast food burger of AI art. It might be different in corporations however if you are a creative looking to have a job in those sectors, that's where I see AI art's biggest impact because corporations will always look for the cheapest option if they could avoid paying humans to produce the art for them. I think that it will be interesting to find out what the public response will be to AI generated animation or comic books.

    Yes! Learn! Creatives should feel unique and empowered. I listened to a video by Alan Moore the writer, talking about the magic and power that creatives have. I always try to think back to this, because I believe he is right. Basically, as the means of storytelling and world building, creatives have a power that regular folk don't. Our work can change minds, open others to possibilities they may never have conceived. I believe that AI technology, aimed at art and writing because they were low hanging fruit, and the data was there to access and essentially rip off. I really hope it wasn't done in an underhanded way, to take the wind from the voice of future creatives. As an artist who went from traditional, to digital, now I use digital to assist my traditional work, because I feel that my result is more valuable or more real. Great clip. Gonna have a re-listen while I paint ;)
